Young women have found a new way to ward off unwanted attention from men – by opting to transform their face using ‘unapproachable makeup’.
The hashtag #UnapproachableMakeup has garnered 91.3 million views on TikTok, with thousands of women showing off their very bold makeup looks as a way to ‘put off men.’
The unapproachable make-up look shuns the soft and natural approach in favour of full-on glamour – with many opting for dark eyes, full lips and chiselled cheekbones.
UK-based makeup artist Brooke Ellis, who uses the handle @brookeellismakeup on TikTok where she posts incredible, dramatic cosmetic transformations, created a notable example of the look in a clip.
During the video, which is simply captioned ‘unapproachable makeup trend…intimidating girl makeup’, the artist showcases strong smokey eyes, alongside dramatic lashes, chiselled cheeks, defined lips, and dramatic waves in her hair.

Another TikTok creator Gabrielle, who uses the handle @gabxxrielle, also made a video showcasing the look.
US-based TikTokker Megi Hebeja – known as @megihebeja on the platform – explained the phenomenon explicitly in a video.
Sharing the post, she wrote: ‘My ‘unapproachable’ makeup look. For when you don’t have pepper spray.’
She demonstrated how she creates her own stunning unapproachable makeup look while describing why she chooses this aesthetic.
According to Megi: ‘[There’s] nothing I love more than p****** men off, and nothing p***** them off more than when you look so good they’re too scared to approach you.’
Launching into creating what she describes as ‘my unapproachable makeup look’, the TikTokker explained that she has learnt a ‘few things about not letting men approach me when I go out without my boyfriend’.
She continues: ‘I’ve come to find out that this makeup look honestly is one of them…
‘Now I’m not saying that every guy that goes out is just trying to get you to go home with them.

US-based TikTokker Megi Hebeja (pictured) gave an explicit explanation for why she chooses to wear a makeup look that is unapproachable – and why it works to stop men from approaching her when she doesn’t want them to
‘Some guys just hit on you because they think you’re pretty and this isn’t about them.
‘This is about the guys who when you go out, they just naturally think that if they come up to you and hit on you, that they’re going to go home with you. Like, it’s not happening.’
She added that while many people believe that they will get approached when they are out if they look attractive, this often isn’t the case, as looking too attractive can be intimidating.
As she explained: ‘I think it’s really funny when guys at bars get rejected and then they start questioning their own masculine energy.’
Completing her make-up, Megi created strong, defined eyebrows, a smoky winged eyeliner look with extra liner and lashings of mascara, and defined cheeks with blusher and highlighter.
Another TikToker @lottiestarrs shared a video clip as she showcased her ‘intimidating makeup look’, opting for heavy eyeliner and a thick lip liner.
